Pilates @ Portside
What is Pilates?
Joseph Pilates, a physical trainer and student of Eastern and Western "mind-body" applications, spent more than 50 years refining his unique exercise technique and developing the Pilates method. Pilates originated as a "body building" regime incorporating mental focus, breathing and relaxation. Over the past 75 years it has evolved into a body-conditioning program suitable for people of all ages and abilities, promoting physical training, general wellbeing, rehabilitation and injury prevention.
Who is Pilates for?
Pilates is a great exercise regime for anyone at any age. It is particularly beneficial if you:
- require personal attention
- are pregnant (before, during and post pregnancy)
- require post operative or injury related rehabilitation
- need an exercise program that allows you to reduce the amount of weight bearing stress on the body
- are looking for a program to supplement your current sport or gym workout
- need a total mind-body conditioning program
